LA SALLE LIBRARY

The Black Knight, in black armour
emblazoned with gold, afoot or mounted on horseback,
is the symbol by which the clubs, teams, student council,
and students of La Salle Secondary School
are known.
The knight, a traditional symbol of strength and commitment to purpose,
undertook all tasks with courage and vision.
A knight acquired skills
through a loyal dedication to study and practice.
Upon completion of a task,
the knight was privileged with recognition that encouraged
advancement
to new adventures. The knight returned from these quests infused with
civility
and a commitment to serve newer and larger communities.
Our knight's armour suggests the strength of accumulated skills needed
for meeting
the challenges and uncertainties of the future. The horse
represents the natural world, to which
the knight has a responsibility
of care. The horse carries the knight with a creative swiftness,
forward
into the future.
The knight undertakes the alchemist's task of making transformations:
changing
the common coldness of black into the precious warmth of gold.
We exist to change the unfamiliar
into the familiar; the uncaring into
the compassionate; impure into pure. We strive to create
an environment
in which the stability and certainty of the past makes way for the new
and undiscovered richness of the future.
