Matt Kirk

La Salle S.S. Graduate 2000

Matt begans his football Career at La Salle Secondary School, where he was a student from 1995-2000.
He went on to enjoy a fine five-year career at Queen's, where he was named to the OUA first all-star team in 2003 and 2004 and gained all-Canadian honours in 2003. As well, in 2003, Matt won the J.P. Metras trophy, which is awarded to the OUA's most outstanding lineman.
Matt was drafted in the 5th round (38th overall) of the 2004 CFL draft by the Ottawa Renegades. In his first pro season, Matt saw action in all 18 games for Ottawa. He played mainly on special teams, but saw enough regular play to record three defensive tackles and 13 special team tackles (3rd) on the team. A consistent special teams' performer, he recorded tackles in 11 different games.
In the 2006 Ottawa Dispersal Draft, the B.C. Lions acquired Matt as their second selection (12th overall). He appeared in all 18 regular season games as well as the West Championship and Grey Cup. Kirk recorded five defensive tackles and one forced fumble. In 2007, he again appeared in all 18 games and the West Final. Filling a valuable role on special teams as well as a backup along the defensive line, Matt matched his 2006 total of five defensive tackles.
Now entering his third year with the Lions (4th overall), Matt has not missed a game in this three seasons as a pro and looks forward to another successful year with B.C.
