Image of confirmed COVID 19 caseUpdate Dec. 22, 2021: KFL&A Public Health identified three positive student cases of COVID-19 at LaSalle Intermediate and Secondary School on Dec. 22. These cases were already isolating so no new class cohorts need to isolate.

One student on Dec. 18. This required the isolation of one new cohort. The other cohort was already isolating.

This case follows the identification of two students on Dec. 17 which resulted in Public Health declaring an outbreak. There are now six cases at the school, however, not all are connected to the outbreak.

As per provincial Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education guidance, an outbreak is declared in a school once it has been determined that two individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 with an epidemiological link (meaning these students/staff could have become infected with COVID-19 at school, either from each other or a common source), within a 14-day period.

Additional cases: two students on Dec. 16 resulted in two class cohorts being directed to isolated, two positive cases on Dec. 11 and 12: one case in a student and one case in a staff member resulting in four cohorts moving into self-isolation.

Families are encouraged to continue to monitor and screen students daily for symptoms of COVID-19 as most cases of COVID-19 are acquired in the home setting. Do not send students to school if they are sick or symptomatic.

Please continue to follow all public health guidelines which include maintaining physical distance, wearing face coverings, and cleaning your hands frequently.

Cases in schools must be reported locally and provincially. We are sharing this information with you to ensure you have accurate information. No further information will be released to maintain privacy.
