MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS

· Because it is Black History Month, we would like to take this time to acknowledge Black Canadians every day of this month who have made history, contributed to society, and shaped various fields while defying stereotypes and prejudice. Today, we honour Jean Augustine, the first Black woman elected to Canada’s House of Commons and a key figure in making Black History Month officially recognized in Canada.
· Course selections for next year are open. Students will be called down to Student Services to finalize their selections.
· Rehearsals officially start today, all cast members please check the google classroom for updates. We look forward to seeing everyone involved with Mamma Mia cast this week.

· There is an important Boys Hockey Practice today at Slush Puppy arena at 3:00pm. Please do your best to be there in preparation for Wednesday's semi final
· Grad photos continue this week. If you have not signed up yet or are rescheduling from Friday’s snow day make sure to do so as soon as possible.

· During Black History Month, we would like to take this time to acknowledge Black Canadians every day of this month who have made history, contributed to society, and shaped various fields. Today, we honour Michaëlle Jean, who was the first Black Governor General of Canada and a global advocate for human rights, culture, and youth empowerment.
· This is a reminder for all our Best Buddies leaders that we have a meeting in the library fishbowl at 11:15 today! See you there!
In your Knights Sports
· Attention All JUNIOR AND SENIOR GIRLS, if you are interested in playing rugby at La Salle this spring please come to the lunchtime meeting on Thursday, Feb 26th. Seniors are meeting in room 123, Juniors are meeting in room 207
· A reminder to all JUNIOR KNIGHTS VOLLEYBALL COACHES -we have a 20-minute meeting at the start of lunch in room 124 today! Don't miss it!
· If you see a member of the Junior Girls' volleyball team today, wish them luck as they zoom off to Kemptville tomorrow as the AA KASSAA rep at EOSSAA. Go girls, go! Make La Salle proud!

· Today, we acknowledge the first day of Ramadan, a holy month in Islam during which Muslims fast from dawn to sunset and focus on prayer, reflection, self-discipline, and generosity. We encourage everyone to learn about and respect the traditions celebrated within our school community.
· Course selections for next year are open. Homeroom teachers have documents and instructions for all their students. Next week, students will be called down to Student Services to finalize their selections. Please take the time to think about your plans before you are called down.

· Leadership class is hosting the first-ever a school wide Euchre tournament in the great hall on February 19th and 20th.
· Badminton Team practices start this week! If you are interested in trying some competitive badminton - practice today at 4:15pm and Friday, February 20th at lunch, both in the main gym. No experience necessary. Please see Ms. Lawlor if you have any questions or need more information.
· Our amazing Jr. Boys basketball team qualified for the city championships this Friday, the 20th, at SLC. Let’s fill the stands Black Knights, game begins at 5pm! Adults are $5, kids are free!
· Good morning grade 12 future graduates, this message is for you. Graduation photos start today and are only for a few days. If you have not signed up yet make sure to do so, the poster is outside the main office.

· Throughout Black History month we would like to honour those who have made history, contributed to society in various fields in history and today. Anne Cools, Canada’s first Black senator and a strong advocate for social justice, women’s rights, and mental health reform.
· Do you enjoy working with students with intellectual disabilities? Are you looking for a way to get involved? If so, Best Buddies is for you! Come to the library at lunch on Tues Feb 17th to learn more or see Ms. Lamont or Ms. Cubitt.

· A big shoutout to our Senior Girls Volleyball team who wrapped up their season in the quarterfinals yesterday. Thank you to the "big dogs" who lead this team with so much heart. We are so proud of you girls. Thank you for representing our school with grit, humour, and hustle all season long.
· The junior boys are giant killers! Last night, the junior boys beat Frontenac in semifinals 67 to 55. KASSAA championships are next Friday at Saint Lawrence. Game begins at 5:30. Don't miss it!!!
· Think you’ve got game? We are not talking basketball—CARDS. Leadership class is hosting a school wide Euchre tournament in the great hall on February 19th and 20th. We will also be offering a refresher and learning session in the library today and again next Tuesday, the 17th, to get you ready for the big day.
· A huge congrats to the Junior Girls Volleyball team who battled hard against the KSS Blues last night in semi-final play. A truly amazing effort that proved yet again, we are the underdogs to watch out for-with a big bark and a harder bite! So proud of the efforts of these young women.
